I place a chair in the middle of the model stand in order to give students a non-moving point of reference. Alternatively,
I ask the model to keep their lower body stationary and move only their upper body.
The model takes a seated pose (or standing), then after two minutes, moves slightly to a second pose, then again to a third,
fourth and fifth.
The goal of this exercise for students to capture a sense of movement. Frequently, I explain to my students that
life is movement; therefore, creating the illusion of movement in their drawings imbues them with a sense of life.
